About

THE DIRECTOR

Danilo Currò was born in '93 in Messina, on a sweltering Friday in August. He began studying painting in 2009, exploring photography and cinema a few years later.

In Messina, he created "Sunday," a documentary that narrates the life of a young Nigerian who arrived in Sicily after a long journey through the desert. "Sunday" was presented by director Gabriele Muccino and was selected and screened at various festivals.

In the same year, he delved into the theme of immigration by creating "Black Lips." The photographic project was exhibited at Palazzo Pucci in Florence and won the Sunday Photographers award from the newspaper La Stampa for Photolux Biennale. In 2016, he embarked on an irreversible journey to Rome. Here, he began to immerse himself in the cinematic environment, photographing actors and actresses of the new generation. In collaboration with Fabrique du Cinema, he created "Puro," a blend of photography and cinema, experimenting with sensory reactions through the element of water.

In 2020, he felt the need to change direction, confront the landscape, and build stories. He started "Mungibeddu," a photographic series on Mount Etna. The photos comprising it received an honorable mention at the IPA in 2021, were published in various magazines, and exhibited collectively for Perimetro at Cascina Cuccagna, Milan.

In the summer of 2022 he made his first feature film as director of photography: "U Mari". In 2023, he continued working with moving light by shooting a music video for pianist Emanuele Savron and the short film "Il Sacrificio" by Antonio Casanegra.

Some of his photos have been published in Rolling Stones, Corriere della Sera, Style Magazine, La Stampa, Fabrique du Cinema, Perimetro, and others.

He lives in Rome and works in the fields of photography and cinematography.
