Italy 1944, Montecassino. Escaped to death after a fight against Germans, an English rifleman wakes up among his dead comrades, not so far from a German reconnaissance team patrolling the battlefield. Thus begins his escape attempt, which leads him to be a spectator of the war, but in reaching salvation, he inevitably becomes a protagonist.

OUR TAKE

"Daisy Bullet" is a historical drama set during World War II. It's an ambitious film that delves into the drama of the wars of the past, yet unmistakably resonates with contemporary messages and themes due to the global upheavals of our present time. With striking visual impact and an international scope, the film offers viewers a complete immersion into history. Simone Russo, the director and writer of the short film, has worked with refined attention to detail, leaving nothing to chance, thereby giving the project an enviable production value that will be immediately recognized by juries from the very first moments of viewing. The film tells the story of a British rifleman who narrowly escapes death and, over the course of events, transitions from victim to executioner, as is often the case when reason is suspended. Much like in Fabrizio De André's famous ballad, the protagonist finds himself facing a man "with the exact same mood, but wearing a uniform of a different color", conveying without sentimentality the ideological and moral confusion inherent in all wars. The film has a unique atmosphere, filled with moments of tension, expertly balanced with meticulous editing. Supported by a talented cast and standout performances, Daisy Bullet is poised to be a surprise in the upcoming Italian and international festival season.

About

DIRECTOR

Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to be born in an economic context that allowed me to easily experiment with my passion for cinema. For this reason I found myself forced to orbit around it for many years of my life and, from a very young age, I dedicated much of my time working with the sole objective of being able to pursue this project. I always like to say that my approach to directing comes from external points, which I feel orbit around this passion that holds them together. These undeniably include Music, Dance, Acting, Drawing and the more distant Cosmology. My long-term goal is to succeed in becoming a director with great awareness of the medium, able to leave something that remains over time.

I have always lived with a fire in my chest which at the same time does not allow me to live, but is my reason for living, accompanied by a constant bipolarity between ambition and inadequacy, where the main cause of the second is an inevitable fear of ignorance. My hope is that all of this will allow me to get closer to the world of cinema and what it has to offer. I really believe in what experience can teach and in the mentors you meet in life.

And I have no intention to stop.
